Bynum Music Series
Bynum General Store
7:00-9:00pm
Although the Bynum General Store was in danger of closing, a group of local neighbors have banded together to re-open the store as a community center, historic site, and venue for Friday night concerts once again! Proceeds from the music series will help keep the store self-sustaining.
The Bynum General Store opened 71 years ago and was one of five stores in Bynum back when this was a lively, bustling cotton mill town. The mill closed in the 1970s, and community life began to fade. Still, the supportive connections between neighbors remained though there was little money left to support businesses off the beaten path.
The Music Series began in 2001 as an effort among neighbors to help support the Bynum General Store, one of the only remaining historical landmarks and social centers in this special place.
With the help of former owner, Jerry Partin, the community, the store, the Haw River Assembly, grammy nominee, Tift Merritt, and world famous folk artist, Clyde Jones, Bynum found its place on the map once again.
